About
Bryl is built by Roushan, Inc. — a Delaware corporation building software for professions where confidentiality is the product. Therapy is the first one we're shipping for. Law, journalism, and medicine are next.
The principle
We started Roushan, Inc. because we kept watching the same pattern in health-tech, legal-tech, and journalism-tech: a privacy-positioned product gets bought by a bigger company, the BAA stays in place, the architecture quietly changes, and three years later the data the original team promised would never leave somebody's laptop is sitting in a hyperscaler's data warehouse.
The way out isn't a stricter contract. The way out is an architecture where the question doesn't arise: data the vendor cannot have, the vendor cannot lose. Most of the time, the iPhone in your pocket has enough compute to do the work. When it does, the audio doesn't need to leave it.
Who we are
Roushan, Inc. is a small team of engineers and designers, plus a clinical advisory rotation we keep deliberately informal — a handful of licensed psychotherapists in solo and group practice who push back on what we ship before it ships. Their feedback is why the marker pad exists, why “hold to seal” is one-and-a-half seconds, and why we don't auto-paste into your EHR.
What we will not do
- We will not build a Bryl cloud. If the architecture changes, the architectural attestation stops being true, and we will tell you so before it stops being true.
- We will not introduce ad SDKs or tracking SDKs into the iOS app.
- We will not, under acquisition pressure, sell the closed-beta waitlist or any pilot data to a third party.
- We will not send your session audio to a third-party LLM provider in exchange for a slightly better note draft. The whole point is the architecture.
